SAMPLE – INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM – REDUCTION IN WORK FORCE – LAYOFFS
Like our climate, businesses have seasons. We emerge in the spring, celebrate in summer, shed in the fall, and hibernate in winter. And we plant seeds throughout the year to assure growth. However, a single storm can destroy the farmer’s harvest. Left are difficult decisions affecting many families.
Directional changes occur during economically challenging times when the crop exceeds the demand. Operations must be streamlined, work forces reduced. Unfortunately, our organization is faced with hardships that require us to make drastic changes if we are to maintain our market presence.
It is with utmost regret that I inform our corporate family that there is no way of returning to springtime favor without a work force reduction. Following extensive analysis and review, we have decided to lay off personnel in the [NAME OF THE DEPARTMENT,DIVISION,JOB TILE,
ETC AFFECTED BY LAYOFF]. Those directly affected will be advised by their managers on [DATE THE PEOPLE LET GO WILL BE NOTIFIED].
This loss places an additional burden of performance on each of us. We are asking all of you to carry more than your share of the load until the seedlings of corporate development have had a chance to take root. Only then will we be able to reap the rewards of a bountiful crop.
